Law Firm
Technology Consulting
in Wichita
Practical technology for small and mid-size law firms: IT tracking, evidence review tools, reporting dashboards, and websites. Built by someone who works inside a law firm.
Independent, and
Who I Am
DataForge is a separate, independent company, and I work as a law firm technology consultant here in Wichita. I use DataForge's tools in my work at a Wichita law firm, and this page speaks for DataForge, not for the firm.
I started at that firm in 2022 as an office clerk, and the firm later created a Data Coordinator role around the systems I'd built.
The
Problem
Many law firms don't have an in-house IT department. Printers jam, software rollouts go unexplained, and when something breaks the fix depends on who happens to be nearby. Each issue looks like a one-off because nobody keeps a record, so the underlying patterns stay invisible.
Tracking IT Issues:
IT Logger
In my office, a vendor was called only for major failures and nothing tracked the smaller problems. I built IT Logger, a small ticket tracker (a log of who reported what, when, and whether it's fixed). It runs locally on any machine with Python, needs no licenses or outside services, and shows ticket counts, issue types, and monthly volume on a dashboard.
Once issues were logged, a pattern appeared. Printer trouble was the biggest category and clustered around the same shared printers. The training questions clustered around a document-management software rollout that never had a structured handoff. Individual annoyances turned out to have fixable causes.
Reviewing Discovery Data:
CaseLens
Discovery is the stage where both sides hand over case data. CaseLens, built by DataForge, is a Windows desktop app for reviewing exported message data. A reviewer can browse threads, search by keyword, filter by sender or channel, and export findings to CSV (a plain spreadsheet file). Cases open read-only, so the source data can't be changed by accident.
It started as a simple message browser and grew in stages as real needs came up.
Evidence Processing:
Evidence Suite
The Evidence Processing Suite, also built by DataForge, is a companion toolset for evidence files. It pulls still frames out of video, reads the text in images and screenshots (OCR, optical character recognition), and lays frames out in contact sheets (PDF grids of frames with timestamps) for quick attorney review.
It also records a SHA-256 hash for each evidence file. A hash is a digital fingerprint that changes if a file is altered, so you can check later whether a file is unchanged. The results are packaged into structured PDFs. I make no claim about what any court will accept; that's a question for counsel.
Reporting and
Dashboards
Firms often can't see their own numbers without someone running a report by hand. I build dashboards (one screen of live charts and tables) and automated reports (reports that build themselves on a schedule) from the data you already have.
The dashboard gallery includes a sample legal billing dashboard. It uses made-up data and is there to show what's possible, not to show any real firm's numbers.
Your Firm's
Website
I also build websites for law firms: attorney profiles, practice-area pages, a blog, and a CMS (the editing area behind the site) that your own staff can update, with training and handoff documentation. See small business website design in Wichita.
Working
Together
Engagements start with a free scoping call. Pricing depends on the kind of work, and ongoing support is separate from building.
A single, scoped deliverable, such as a dashboard, an automation script, or a landing page.
The monthly price while a larger build is actively underway. It's for building things, not for ongoing support.
Larger or multi-system work, scoped and priced after a discovery call.
Ongoing support for tools and sites already in place: Care at $250 a month and Priority Care at $750 a month, each with included hours.
